Partners In Education

Now that school is back in session, D&H Drug Store and Midway Electric, Inc. are ready to kick off the 2010-2011 school year with their Partners in Education, Midway Heights Elementary School! We created a new banner this year that will hang in the gym of the school and the above picture is what it looks like! We wanted something to show visitors and families who their partners in education are. I have really enjoyed being a PIE over the last couple of years and I am so glad that D&H Drug Store came on board! We make a great team! Welcome back students and we look forward to a great year with you! :)

Homemade Cherry Pie!

A couple of weekends ago I decided I would try my hand at making my husband a homemade cherry pie. Grandma Ruby would make these for him because it's his favorite. I pulled out the recipe and it was really good! The crust was just like what I remember her crust to be, flaky and just a little sweet, and the filling turned out just like her filling. I remember thinking "Is this what Grandma was talking about" or "Wonder what Grandma would think of me making a homemade cherry pie"...... I can only imagine that she was probably smiling and shaking her head at the mess I made creating this homemade pie! I am going to start making pies more often so I can have a little laugh from time to time and remember how she loved baking pies. Hmmm..... wonder what flavor my next pie will be.... chocolate? coconut? another cherry?  :)

Race Carl Edwards

As I was playing around last night on facebook I noticed that Carl Edwards had posted a video about a contest. So I watched it and he encouraged everyone to create a video, upload it and have people "like" it on www.racecarledwards.com so I thought it would be worth a try! As of 3:30 pm today there was 7 total videos and my video had 63 votes (number 1 so far)! It's super easy and you don't do anything except "like" my video.... no signing up and no e-mail addresses! Please take the time to keep me in the running and vote for me! Thanks for all the support so far and fingers crossed that I have a chance to meet Carl Edwards and then race him in a 2011 Ford Fusion on September 8th at Kansas Speedway!

A little heartbeat....

I got to go to see Dr. Jones with my sister this morning for her baby check up. This is the first grandchild for my parents and Greg's parents and everyone is super excited! I got the joy of hearing the baby's heartbeat this morning. It's not a long video but you can hear it. I think it's going to be a little girl! We will officially find out on October 6th which Mom, Dad, myself, and Greg's Mom and Dad are all going to see what sex this baby is. I know Ashley and Greg waited a long time for this moment and I couldn't be happier for them.... they are going to make great parents! Aunt Shell is going to spoil this kid rotten.... and then hand he/she back to it's parents.... Isn't that nice! :)

500 points.... 1/2 way there!

As an Ambassador we get to meet some really neat people and learn about them and their businesses. When I became an Ambassador on July 1, 2008 I was so excited! What a great group of people would wear gold jackets and network! One of the big things was to get 1,000 ribbon cutting points and you would have a tree planted anywhere in Columbia in your honor. Within the first month I had made a goal.... my goal was to have my first tree within 5 years of being an Ambassador. I have been an Ambassador for 2 years and a little over a month and yesterday I reached my half way mark... 500 points! My next goal is to get my 1,000 points during my chair as an Ambassador which is next year for the 2011-2012 year. It has been really crazy because we have had over 150 ribbon cuttings last year and expect to have more than that this year. (The 12 other Ambassadors that have trees have worked really hard for many years to get 1,000 points to get their tree and now we have so many ribbon cuttings you can get one in no time!) Keep cheering me on as I work hard to have this tree in 4 years instead of 5! Where will my tree be planted when I get it? Midway Heights Elementary School :)

A gift from a friend...

A friend of mine invited me over to her house a week or so ago and I was admiring all of her Mizzou stuff on her walls (She is a HUGE Coach Pinkel fan) and she had a signed Chase Daniels Sports Illustrated magazine. I told her that I tried to get a couple signed and just couldn't seem to get it done. She came out to the shop yesterday and brought me a birthday present.... my very own signed magazine! In our office I have my signed St. Louis Cardinals pictures and jersey's and my signed Mizzou stuff. This will make a nice addition (even those Chase is now with the Redskins) to my Mizzou stuff. Thank you Heather Stewart.... I love it! :)

servicenoodle.com

Several might not know what servicenoodle.com is so let me explain! Rusty Brett and his team wanted to create a place where you could "noodle" businesses to find out more information about who they are and what they do. When you go to the phone book you look in a certain section, such as electric or security, and you see the display ads. Some are more detailed than others but do you really know any more about the company and who they are? We jumped on board with this idea so that customers and other vendors could "noodle" other businesses to find out what they do. Midway Electric, Inc and Midway CSI are both listed in the top 5 of electric and security categories and both have detailed pages that tell a little about us and the services we offer. We are asking anyone that knows us or has had service provided by us to please log on to servicenoodle.com create a user name and password and then go to Midway Electric, Inc. and Midway CSI and leave a recommendation (last tab under our name) so that others know what type of people they are working with if you use our company. I would really appreciate this! For all of your needs please check out servicenoodle.com!

Happy Birthday to ME!!!!

What a wonderful birthday this has turned out to be! When I got to work there was a beautiful bouquet of flowers on my desk (from my momma) and Brandon and Kim (we call him our son .... he is our other Master Electrician and lives up here during the week and goes home to Sullivan, MO on the weekends) went to town to get birthday cards and stopped by my Starbuck's to get my favorite drink (since I don't drink coffee) which is a Venti whole milk 5-pump of vanilla hot chocolate and a piece of pumpkin loaf! The girls at the window know me and didn't even charge Brandon for my drink! Now that's pretty cool! Wayne & Frank Washburn took me to Olive Garden for lunch which was really good! When I got back to the office I had a second bouquet of flowers from Greg, Jill & Kinly Greening! What a nice surprise! I also had 2 more cards and one of them had a really nice gift card to Riversong Spa in it! Sa-weet! I got a yummy bag of Cocktail Classic Jelly Belly's and a couple of more really nice cards. So far I have had about 150 facebook birthday wishes which really made my day! It's the little things in life ya know! I am so thankful for a wonderful husband as well as my amazing family and friends.... You guys know how to make a girl smile! :)

Friends that share the same birthday: Chuck Everitt, Heather Dimitt, Hiromi McCumber, Shirley Bogart, Jenn Bloss (my hairdresser), Glenn Mertens, Richard Quiroz (Andrea Jira's dad), Jack Stubbs..... AND only one person that I have met in my 34 years that shares a birthday EXACTLY (same day and year) is Kara Barker!

Famous people that share my birthday: Wes Craven (Nightmare on Elm Street), Judge Lance Ito (OJ Simpson Judge), Butch Patrick (Eddie Munster), Carroll O'Connor (Archie Bunker), Brian France (Chairman and CEO of NASCAR), Max Wright (Willie Tanner, dad on ALF), Jack Warner (co-founder of Warner Bros), Victoria Jackson (Saturday Night Live) and Hulk Hogan (wrestling)

My Birthday eve

Today is the eve of my birthday! Brandon and I went to my mom and dad's for dinner. My sister, Ashley, and her hubby Greg came out to celebrate and eat dinner with us. There isn't anything better than momma's home cookin'! She had grilled burgers, fresh corn on the cob, mashed taters, roasted corn salsa, fresh tomatoes, and sweet tea! Ash and Greg brought out the Ediable Arrangment (which was so good) and momma  got me a little cake (it was good too but not as good as her cookin'). It was so nice to celebrate with the ones you love and I couldn't be happier.... age is mearly the number of years you have been on this earth.... make the most of it and enjoy each day! Thanks mom, dad, Ash, Greg and Brandon for everything! I love you guys :)

Missouri State Penitentiary Tour

On Saturday July 31, 2010 Brandon and I took a tour of the Missouri State Penitentiary. This penitentiary housed prisoners from Feb 29, 1836 to Sept 15, 2004. They started offering tours of this facility in 2009 and was a huge hit that they contiuned them this year. Our tour guide, Mark, was the last warden of this prison and the first warden of the new prison, the Jefferson City Correctional Center. It was really interesting to see the history in these old buildings and to see how and where these criminals lived. They are planning to tear down some of these buildings and have already torn down the main enterance, sally port and hospital to make room for the Federal Courthouse that is being constructed (the MSP donated 7.5 acres for them to build here since a lot of their cases go to Federal Court). Brandon and I took the 4-hour in deepth tour (which I recommend) and enjoyed hearing about the history, criminals and land. If you are interested in a tour go to www.missouripentours.com
